Trax acquires Planorama

Written by Ayoub Khammari

In 2009, Planorama set out to pioneer image recognition for retail with a never-seen-before solution that would turn pdf plans into editable planograms. Along the way, we solved another big problem for Consumer Packages Goods (CPG) companies: understanding what happens at the shelf. And today, that mission to help retail industry leaders transform their retail execution and category management processes thanks to image recognition grows stronger.

Today, I’m excited to announce that Trax has acquired Planorama.

If you're into retail execution, you have probably met with the Trax teams already. For the others, let me introduce you to Trax. By the way, the two gentlemen in the picture above are Joel Bar-El, CEO and co-founder at Trax, and Dror Feldheim, Chief Commercial Officer and co-founder at Trax. So, for those who may not know, Trax is a leading global provider of computer vision and analytics solutions for retail. Worldwide, CPG brands and retailers rely on Trax's in-store execution solutions, market measurement, and analytics services - powered by proprietary fine-grained image recognition, machine learning and IOT platforms - to turn photos of retail shelves into granular, actionable, shelf and store-level insights. Recently, Trax closed the acquisition of China's AI and big data service provider, LenzTech, and US-based shopping reward app, Shopkick.

By joining forces with Trax, we will be able to provide CPGs and retailers worldwide with a wider array of image recognition and analytics products, solutions, and services, as well as more depth. Together, Trax and Planorama share a deep commitment to bringing the best-of-breed technologies and capabilities to retail. For clients and partners, it’s important to know that today’s announcement solidifies this commitment. Planorama clients can expect continuing service and support, while Planorama partners can expect to keep working with us as they have before.

Planorama has become what it is today thanks to the hard work of an incredibly dedicated team that has delivered through a challenging and rapidly changing environment. I am proud of this team and cannot think of a better way to continue to contribute to our mission and grow their expertise than as part of the talent pool at Trax.

For them, as well as for our clients and partners, I believe this is an awesome outcome. But it’s only a step along a much longer path. This is not, by any means, the end for Planorama, but simply the closing of our first chapter with many more to come. Stay tuned to see where our growth and innovation takes us from here!
